Privacy first
Privacy Policy
Be Kind is a parental language-control tool. The app runs 100% locally on your computer; the website collects some data to manage your free trial and subscription. This policy covers both.
1. Who is responsible
The adult/parent/guardian who installs and configures Be Kind is the controller of the minor's data on their own machine. For the sign-up and payment data collected on the website, the controller is the Be Kind operator. The app itself is not a cloud service: voice monitoring does not send data to any server.
2. Data we collect at sign-up (website)
When you start the free trial or buy, the website form collects the data needed to create and manage your account and subscription:
- Name
- Email (to send your serial and subscription notices)
- Phone
- Country and city
- Payment data: processed by our third-party payment provider (e.g. LemonSqueezy). Be Kind does not store your full card number; we only receive payment confirmation and basic billing details.
We use this data to: deliver your serial, manage the trial and charges, provide support, and meet legal/tax obligations. We do not sell it.
3. What data the app processes (on your device)
- Microphone audio: captured and processed in memory, in real time, to transcribe it to text locally. Audio is NOT saved to disk and NOT sent to the Internet (unless the adult explicitly enables the optional "save clip" feature, see §6).
- Transcribed text: compared against the word list and discarded. Full transcripts and conversations are not stored.
- Event log: when a listed word is detected, the following is stored locally and encrypted: the detected word, date/time, and the action taken. Nothing else.
- Settings: PIN (stored as an irreversible hash), word list, preferences. Stored locally and encrypted.
4. Where data is stored
- App data (settings, log, PIN): only on the user's local machine, encrypted (
%APPDATA%\BeKind\and%PROGRAMDATA%\BeKind\). Voice monitoring is not transmitted to any server. - Sign-up/payment data (name, email, phone, country, city): stored in the systems of the Be Kind operator and/or the payment provider, solely to manage your account, trial, and subscription.
The app's only Internet use is the initial download of the voice model, update checks, and, where applicable, subscription validation.
5. Local speech recognition
Transcription uses offline engines (Vosk / Whisper). Audio never leaves the device for this purpose.
6. Clip recording (optional, disabled by default)
If a future version offers saving an audio clip of the detection moment (so the adult can verify false positives), it will be:
- Opt-in (off by default), with separate consent.
- Only the flagged clip (a few seconds), encrypted, with automatic deletion after a configurable period.
- Playable only with the parental PIN.
7. Minors
Be Kind is designed so the minor knows it is active (visible system-tray icon). It is not hidden surveillance. The adult is responsible for informing the minor and for complying with the laws of their country (e.g. COPPA in the US, GDPR in the EU) regarding processing of minors' data.
8. Retention and your rights
- Data on your device: you control it. From the PIN-protected panel you can view the log, delete words, reset counters, and uninstall the app (this removes local data).
- Sign-up/payment data: you may at any time access, correct, or delete your data, and cancel your subscription, by writing to the contact channel. We keep billing data for as long as tax law requires; the rest is deleted when you close your account.
9. Security
Settings and log are stored encrypted (DPAPI on Windows), tied to the machine's user account, to prevent reading or tampering by the minor.
10. Contact
For privacy questions, to exercise your rights, or to cancel your subscription, contact the Be Kind operator via the support channel listed on the website or in your purchase email.
Voice monitoring stays on your device: by design, your voice never travels to any server. Read the Terms of Use too →
